This past week, the Uvalde National Fish Hatchery stocked community-fishing lakes in Camp Wood, Uvalde, Eagle Pass and Utopia with channel catfish of 11 inches in average length. This was accomplished in cooperation with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to promote the value and benefits of recreational fishing.
A total number of 3,160 fish were stocked at the following locations:
Camp Wood (Cooksey Park)-1,054
Uvalde (Fort Inge)-836
Utopia (Community Park)-800
Eagle Pass (City Lake)-470
The Hatchery will be stocking the same lakes again with channel catfish in the fall of 2006.
Starting in June 2007, the Hatchery plans to hold an annual free fishing day event during the National Boating and Fishing Week.
