Cisneros Construction Inc. Selected as Outstanding Minority Contractor of the Year

The Federal Executive Boards Minority Business Opportunity Committee has selected Cisneros Construction, Inc., as the 2002 Minority Construction Contractor of the Year for Oregon and Southwest Washington.

TUR> TUR>The company will be honored at an awards luncheon Oct. 11, 2002, at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. Cisneros Construction was nominated by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Department of Labors Tongue Point Job Corps Center and the Associated General Contractors for its outstanding workmanship and customer service.

TUR> TUR>Cisneros Construction is a six-year old Portland company, owned by Juan G. Cisneros Sr., that designs and constructs buildings and engages other minority businesses in its subcontracting work. Cisneros employs 12 people and last year brought in more than $5 million in sales.

TUR> TUR>"We are grateful to Mr. Cisneros for providing our agency with such quality work and professionalism," said Anne Badgley, regional director of the Services Pacific Region.

TUR> TUR>The Fish and Wildlife Service, along with others, nominate a business each year that demonstrates exceptional customer service and compliance with contract requirements. Cisneros Construction has been nominated three times before, but this is the first year it has won.

TUR> TUR>The company has been the design/build contractor for a number of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service projects including the recently dedicated genetics lab at Abernathy Fish Technology Center in Longview, Washington.

TUR> TUR>"We try to go above and beyond the call," said Cisneros. "We are always checking to see if theres anything more we can be doing to help a client, even after a project is done."

TUR> TUR>Recipients of other awards this year include: Al Bagley, River Bend Guide Service, Outstanding Minority Service Contractor of the Year; Myriam Ceballos, Elite Signs, Outstanding Minority Manufacturer/Supplier of the Year; Ken Vigil, President, Vigil-Agrimis, Inc., Outstanding Minority Professional Firm of the Year; and Fred Cooper, President, Fred Cooper Consulting Engineers, Inc., Small Business Administrations Minority Small Business Person of the Year.

TUR> TUR>The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the principal federal agency responsible for conserving, protecting and enhancing fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. The Service manages the 95-million-acre National Wildlife Refuge System which encompasses more than 540 national wildlife refuges, thousands of small wetlands and other special management areas. It also operates 70 national fish hatcheries, 64 fishery resource offices and 78 ecological services field stations. The agency enforces federal wildlife laws, administers the Endangered Species Act, manages migratory bird populations, restores nationally significant fisheries, conserves and restores wildlife habitat such as wetlands, and helps foreign governments with their conservation efforts. It also oversees the Federal Aid program that distributes hundreds of millions of dollars in excise taxes on fishing and hunting equipment to state fish and wildlife agencies.
