Visit Us

National wildlife refuges offer us all a chance to unplug from the stresses of daily life and reconnect with our natural surroundings. At Wallops Island National Wildlife Refuge this experience is offered via the timeless tradition of hunting, which is available to those with a refuge permit during the state of Virginia's big game season. The refuge is otherwise closed to the public.

Activities

Hunters can obtain a permit harvest white-tailed deer during the Virginia State big game season.

Other Facilities in the Complex

We are managed as part of the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, this group of sites protect similar habitat types and wildlife. This means common management needs can be applied toward a common purpose throughout the Complex.

Rules and Policies

Refuge access is available by permit only. Visitors must follow all rules and policies described in their hunt or special use permit. Keep in mind that unless an activity is explicitly permitted, that activity is prohibited.
