People bird watching in spring deciduous forest

Tamarac Refuge is a premier bird watching location with 258 species recorded. It is known for trumpeter swans, golden-winged warblers, American woodcock, common loon, bald eagles, and more. The diversity of habitat from conifer forest to open meadows along with lakes, rivers and vernal ponds bring a wide variety of species. Spring can reveal up to 25 species of woodland warblers. In the summer months watch for young swan cygnets, ducklings, and eaglets. Fall is full of diving ducks such as mergansers and ring-necked ducks. Winter months are occasionally host to the great grey owl.  The wildlife drive is a good place to spend time birdwatching. The visitor center has bird feeders for up close watching. Check eBird for recent sightings.
