Monitoring, Research
Behind Kanuti’s remarkable living fish, wildlife, and plants are the non-living things (i.e., the “abiota” or physical resources) that make life not only possible, but able to thrive on the Refuge—healthy waters, soils, permafrost, air, etc. Some of our investigations focus on these important abiotic aspects of the Refuge.
Kanuti Refuge was largely founded for its vast water resources, and the fish, wildlife, and habitats those waters support. Water was deemed so important to the Refuge that one of its establishing purposes is that we must maintain adequate water quantity and quality. To that end we conduct investigations that focus on important water-related aspects of the Refuge.
