The Endangered Species Act (ESA) of 1973 provides a framework to conserve and protect endangered and threatened species and their habitats both domestically and abroad. Under Section 7 of the ESA, federal agencies are required to consult with us on action that they fund, authorize, permit, or carry out. Section 7 Consultation is the process that federal agencies must use to ensure they are not harming listed species or their habitat.
