What We Do
The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) applies to major Federal actions, unless otherwise exempted, that may include new and continuing activities, including projects and programs financed, assisted, conducted, regulated, or approved by Federal agencies; new or revised agency rules, regulations, plans, policies, or procedures; activities, projects, decisions, or actions, that could potentially have a reasonably foreseeable effect on the quality of the human environment.
Examples of Service proposed major Federal actions requiring NEPA compliance include but are not limited to the following: constructing projects and managing activities at National Wildlife Refuges and hatcheries, transferring Service land and personal property, issuing Service permits, awarding grants and cooperative agreements under Service control and responsibility, and issuing environmental policies and certain regulations under Service jurisdictional authority.
