The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will hold a virtual informational meeting to update the public on the Red Wolf Recovery Program, including recovery efforts for the species, the status of recovery efforts in the Eastern North Carolina Red Wolf Population area, coyote management strategies, and future planning efforts for the recovery of the species. With interest in the Red Wolf Recovery Program spanning areas across the historic range of the species, we invite all to attend this virtual informational meeting.

The virtual informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. EST. The Service encourages the submission of questions in advance during the registration process as this will assist us with planning our presentation. Questions will also be taken live online. This virtual information meeting is part of the Service’s continuing efforts to increase communication and transparency on Red Wolf Recovery. 

America’s Red Wolf – a distinct canid species native to the United States – is one of the most imperiled species of canids in the world. Once declared extinct in the wild, the recovery efforts undertaken for the Red Wolf have set the stage for several subsequent large carnivore reintroduction efforts across the nation. 

For more than 30 years, the Service and its partners have worked to conserve and recover the Red Wolf. The Service is focused on increasing community and partner engagement and increasing transparency in all of our actions. This informational meeting is an opportunity for those interested in Red Wolf recovery to learn more about recovery and management actions (past, present, and future) for the Red Wolf.

Successful recovery for the Red Wolf will require collaborative efforts with landowners, partners, and other interested parties to advance solutions that support rural livelihoods and working lands while contributing to Red Wolf recovery. The Service is committed to working with others in that endeavor and this meeting is part of that process.
