The Maine Field Office is co-located with the Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery (CBNFH) on Alamoosook Lake at 306 Hatchery Road, East Orland, Maine 04431.  

Visitors to the Maine Field Office and CBNFH can explore various exhibits at the CBNFH Visitor Center. Exhibits focus on the history of CBNFH (the oldest hatchery in the U.S.), recreational angling in Maine, and Atlantic salmon and other fish species found in the state. Additionally, the surrounding area has a number of multi-purpose trails that provide ample outdoor recreational opportunities, including hiking, trail running, mountain biking, birdwatching, and nature walks.

Other Facilities in the Complex

The Maine Ecological Services Field Office is part of the Maine-New Hampshire Fish and Wildlife Service Complex, along with three national fish hatcheries, two fish and wildlife conservation offices, and a coastal program office. The offices, hatcheries, and their staff are devoted to restoring migratory fish populations, restoring rivers and coastal beaches, improving aquatic connectivity and fish passage fish passage
Fish passage is the ability of fish or other aquatic species to move freely throughout their life to find food, reproduce, and complete their natural migration cycles. Millions of barriers to fish passage across the country are fragmenting habitat and leading to species declines. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's National Fish Passage Program is working to reconnect watersheds to benefit both wildlife and people.

Driving Directions

From Bangor: Take I-395 out of town towards Route 1A. Take 1A East towards Ellsworth. Turn right in Dedham on Route 46. Take Route 46 until the intersection with Route 1. Turn Left (East) on Route 1 and follow for five miles to Hatchery Road. Turn left on Hatchery Road and follow for one mile until Craig Brook Fish Hatchery can be seen on your left.

From Augusta: Take Route 3 to Belfast. At Belfast Take Route 1 to Bucksport. Continue on Route 1 through Bucksport towards Ellsworth. Continue on Route 1 for seven miles and turn left on Hatchery Road. Follow Hatchery Road for one mile and Craig Brook Fish Hatchery will be on your left.

From Ellsworth: Take Route 1 West towards Bucksport. Follow for 13 miles. Turn right on Hatchery Road and follow for one mile and Craig Brook Fish Hatchery will be on your left.
