Hycroft Mine Eagle Permit NEPA Documents

In April 2020, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service issued a 30-year eagle take permit, pursuant to the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, to Hycroft Resources and Development, Incorporated (HRDI) for activities at Hycroft Mine. The permit authorizes the removal of three golden eagle nests and incidental take by disturbance resulting in the loss of one golden eagle breeding territory.Hycroft Mine is located on public land administered by the Bureau of Land Management and private land controlled by HRDI located in Humboldt and Pershing counties, Nevada, approximately 55 miles west of Winnemucca, Nevada.

Prior to our permit issuance, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was prepared jointly by the Bureau of Land Management Winnemucca District (the lead agency) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act. The EIS analyzed environmental impacts associated with a proposed expansion of the precious metals operations at Hycroft Mine, as well as HRDI’s request for authorization to remove inactive golden eagle nests and for incidental eagle take under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act.

Both the Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service signed respective Records of Decision (ROD) documents detailing the agencies’ decisions on the actions analyzed in the EIS.Please find the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s ROD below.

The Draft and Final EIS, the Bureau of Land Management’s ROD, and additional information regarding this project are available online at the Bureau of Land Management’s National NEPA Register.

Forty years ago, our national symbol, the bald eagle, was in danger of extinction throughout most of its range. Habitat destruction and degradation, illegal shooting, and the contamination of its food source, largely as a consequence of DDT, decimated the eagle population. Habitat protection...
