Ecological Risk Screening Summary - Rohu Labeo (Labeo rohita) - Uncertain Risk

Species that are considered uncertain risk need a more in-depth assessment beyond the Risk Summary to better define the species’ risk to U.S. environments.

Rohu Labeo (Labeo rohita) is native to Southern Asia, but has been widely introduced throughout Asia and parts of Africa for aquaculture purposes. This species is considered an important food source and is one of the primary species in aquaculture worldwide. There is no history of invasiveness documented. Though widely introduced with some populations established in the wild, there have been no reports or studies of adverse impacts from their introductions. L. rohita has been heavily in use in aquaculture since at least the middle of the 20th century. Many parasites, fungi, and pathogens are known to infect L. rohita. The climate match for L. rohita is medium and Arizona had a high individual climate score. The certainty of assessment is low. The overall risk assessment category is uncertain.
