Species that are considered uncertain risk need a more in-depth assessment beyond the Risk Summary to better define the species’ risk to U.S. environments. This additional information will help inform decisions on where, when, and how the species may be used to minimize risks of them becoming invasive.
Cherax solus is a crayfish species endemic to Tigi Lake in West Papua, Indonesia. It has an overall low climate match to the contiguous U.S. and there is no recorded history of introduction outside its native range. Florida and Washington have prohibited possession and trade of this species because of the potential risks of introduction. However, the overall risk assessment is uncertain because of the substantial lack of information about the species, including its potential to cause harm if introduced to a new location.
