As the deep calls and “songs” of invasive American bullfrogs echo across wetlands at night, a dedicated field crew is working to protect some of Washington’s most sensitive native wildlife. Join Jamie Buchanan, American Conservation Experience Bullfrog Crew Leader, and Haile’ Chase-The Boy, Biological Technician, as they share stories and experiences from the front lines of bullfrog removal efforts at Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge and the Black River Unit.
This presentation will explore how invasive bullfrogs threaten the federally threatened Oregon spotted frog and other native species, and how nighttime surveys, wetland navigation, and hands-on conservation work are helping restore balance to these unique ecosystems. Attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges, surprises, and rewarding moments that come with protecting native amphibians in the Pacific Northwest.
