Volunteers will remove invasive bush honeysuckle by cutting with hand saws and hand-pulling smaller plants. Event hosts will apply herbicide to cut stumps to prevent re-growth. We will provide booklets that help identify invasive honeysuckles, in comparison to the native species. There will be a small-scale trash cleanup as well, primarily in the areas where we will be cutting.
Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toed shoes or boots are required and long sleeves/pants highly recommended. Gloves, loppers and hand saws will be provided. Please bring a water bottle and snacks for yourselves. We will provide a water jug for refills, bug spray and sunscreen, as well as a small handwashing station.
We will be carpooling to this site, as there is very limited parking along the road by the unit. Volunteers will meet at the large parking lot off of New Halls Ferry Road then carpool to the actual site, just down the road. This parking lot where we are meeting belongs to The Augustine Institute, which is not affiliated with this project. Please park in the lot just off the road, and do not continue on to the main campus.
