Kodiak Bears: What we've learned over my 20+ year career

Renowned for their large size and abundance, Kodiak brown bears are prized for their cultural, economic, and ecological values. In recognition of this importance, Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge was established 82 years ago to forever provide for the conservation of the bear and its habitat.

Join us for a presentation by Bill Pyle, recently retired from the Fish and Wildlife Service, to hear what we’ve learned about the Refuge’s bears and their habitat since 2005. Bill’s talk will highlight some results from cooperative management, monitoring, and research coupled with observations he made while employed as the refuge’s senior refuge biologist from 2000-2023. He’ll conclude the presentation with an assessment of conservation concerns.

Presentation will begin at 6:15 PM. Refreshments will be provided by Alaska Geographic.
