Details:
In this broadcast, we’ll hear from the Lummi Nation House of Tears carvers, as well as several others as they bless and celebrate the totem pole.
The House of Tears Carvers of the Lummi Nation created the Sacred Sites Totem Pole in 2021 for the Biden-Harris Administration “to raise awareness of Indigenous sacred sites at risk from oil, gas, mining, and infrastructure projects.” Upon completion, a delegation from the Carvers, the Native Organizers Alliance, and other partners transported the totem pole from the Lummi Nation in the present state of Washington to Washington, D.C. on a 2-week journey named the “Red Road to D.C.”
Subsequently, Interior Secretary Haaland Conveyed the totem pole to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and designated to the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) as its permanent home. To learn more about the Sacred Sites Totem Pole and its journey to NCTC view here.
