Meet us at the refuge visitor center for a paddle to Buckley Island and to explore our newest island hiking trail! We will paddle to the head of the island, then move down the backchannel, stopping at the kayak landing beach to go on a hike to the historic Buckley family farmhouse and barns. Along the way, you'll learn about the Island's rich history.
Drop kayaks off at the Fishing Access and boat ramp just upriver from the visitor center beginning around 12:30. Parking is limited, so allow time to park at the main visitor center. Don't have a kayak? A limited number of kayaks will be available to borrow. This is a great way to enjoy the fall foliage while discovering the wonders of our islands!
