Although most people are familiar with honeybees and bumblebees, they make up just a small fraction of the over 400 bee species present in our area. Katy Lustofin from Marietta College will give you an overview of the different kinds of bees and the crucial role they play as pollinators before explaining how you can contribute to scientists’ understanding of these important insects through citizen science projects.
Surprisingly, there is much we don’t yet know about some of our bee species and other insects. Citizen science projects provide researchers with large-scale data that they could not possibly gather themselves while also engaging the public in scientific observation and fostering environmental awareness. Learn about projects that you can participate in to make a real difference in our understanding and protection of pollinators and other wildlife.
This program is free at the Visitor Center (3982 Waverly Road, Williamstown WV) starting at 7pm. It should last about one hour.
