Double-crested Cormorant With Stingray

Sometimes all the hard work of fishing pays off with a delicious meal...but not in this case. The double-crested cormorant (Nannopterum auritum) shown in the photo below, never was able to swallow the stingray. Cormorants are excellent fishers, and can pursue meals underwater down to 150 feet! But evidently they're not always great judges of what can fit in their mouth. Besides fish, other food sources are crabs, frogs, shrimp, snakes and sometimes vegetative material.
