HONOLULU, Hawaii — The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will close Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center and the Kealia Coastal Boardwalk on August 22-23, in preparation for any effects from Hurricane Lane. If circumstances allow, the Refuge plans to reopen on Friday, August 24.
“The safety of our visitors and staff is our foremost concern. We will continue to monitor Hurricane Lane as it gets closer to Maui,” said Acting Project Leader for Oahu National Wildlife Refuges and Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge. “Please check the Refuge website and the Pacific Islands Fish and Wildlife Service Facebook page for the most up to date closure information and the Refuge’s hours.”
Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Visitor Center hours are Monday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., closed on federal holidays. The Kealia Coastal Boardwalk is open seven days a week from sunrise until 7 p.m, including federal holidays.
