Service Reopens Comment Period for Chimpanzee Status Review Under the Endangered Species Act
On September 1, 2011, the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) published in the Federal Register a substantial 90-day finding on a petition to protect all chimpanzees as endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Upon publication, the Service initiated a review of the status of the species to determine if listing the entire species as endangered is warranted.
The Service is making the petition, and all supporting documents submitted with the petition, available to the public on http://www.regulations.gov under the docket number [FWS
