The Friends of the St. Croix Wetland Management District (WMD) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) hosted the 2nd Annual Friends and Neighbors Night Out. WMD staff and Friends welcomed 65 neighbors to Prairie Flats South Waterfowl Production Area (WPA) in St. Croix County on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011.
The event was a great opportunity for WPA neighbors to meet WMD staff and learn about our management programs. There were many questions on tree removal, controlled burning and prairie restoration. Many of the visitors also took in a guided walk through a prairie and oak savanna restoration on the WPA. As an added bonus, WMD staff learned that one landowner is interested in restoring native prairie on their property. The event was a great success and WMD staff will continue to host this annual opportunity to meet our neighbors.
