Construction of an Addition to the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters Building
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has begun construction of an addition to the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge headquarters building, as well as additional vehicle and equipment storage adjacent to the Refuge maintenance shop.
The addition will provide much-needed office and storage space for Service staff. The project also includes the repaving and adding of additional parking spaces at the headquarters parking area and reconstruction of Visitor Center sidewalks. The headquarters building will continue to act as the Refuge Headquarters and Visitor Center and will be open throughout construction.
Both facilities will be built on land that is already highly disturbed. The headquarters addition will be built on grass lawn and will require several non-native trees to be removed. The vehicle and equipment storage facility will be built on an existing dirt and gravel parking lot adjacent to current structures.
These projects will not individually or cumulatively have a significant effect on the quality of the human environment. They will have a negligible environmental effect on and in the vicinity of the site and will produce only minor changes in the use of the affected area.
These projects are not related to the Comprehensive Conservation Planning process currently underway at the Refuge.
Northern Management Services, Inc. headquartered in Sand Point, Idaho broke ground on May 31st and expects to be finished with the project by October, 2011.
