Service to Recognize Project Partners of Successfully-Completed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act-Funded Restoration Project in Northern California
WHAT: The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and Fall River Resource Conservation District (FRRCD) will host a partner recognition and project presentation event to celebrate the successful partner collaboration and project implementation of the Big Bear Flat Restoration Project in the Fall River watershed in Northern California.

PROJECT INFORMATION: Funding for the Big Bear Flat Restoration Project was a combination of Service funds through the Partners for Fish & Wildlife Program ($46,000), Private Stewardship Grants ($80,000), and ARRA ($435,000); in addition to California Department of Conservation and Cantara Trust funding contributions.

BACKGROUND ON PROJECT: The Big Bear Flat Restoration Project accomplished many conservation and water quality objectives by restoring a degraded mountain meadow stream reconnecting it and the water table back to the meadow surface in historic remnant channels. forests were restored, as well as in-stream native trout and other aquatic species habitats. This project was the last restoration project in a series of water quality improvement projects recommended in a 1998 watershed analysis for the Fall River.

The project will not only benefit the mountain meadow habitats in the immediate vicinity, but will also improve water quality habitats downstream, both of which will benefit many sensitive state and federal sensitive species including Western pond turtle, Cascade frog, willow flycatcher, yellow warbler, bald eagle, northern goshawk, sharp-shinned hawk, Cooper
