Partners are once again pooling their resources for the planning and execution of the conversion of former agricultural land to habitat suitable to support greater sage-grouse during the critical brood rearing period. The restoration of native sage-grouse habitat to this 20 acre abandoned agricultural land site, on Camas National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), is just the first phase of a series of potential projects. The fundamentals of the project include site preparation (including weed control and prescribed burning), seeding and transplanting, irrigation and monitoring.
Initial funding for the project has been partially obtained; $5,000, in the form of a grant in the name of Dubois Grouse Days, from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation. The North American Grouse Partnership (NAGP) is providing a philosophic foundation and basic coordination of grouse habitat partnerships both on and off the refuge. The NAGP is a national organization with the mission to promote the conservation of grouse and the habitats necessary for their survival and reproduction.
