The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the shooting death of a peregrine falcon on Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge near Brigham City, Utah. The shooting occurred during the early morning hours of November 15, 2007. Waterfowl hunters in the area heard the shot and later found the peregrine falcon along the dike in the Refuge's Hunting Unit #3. A four-door dark-colored truck pulling a duck boat was observed leaving the area shortly before the falcon was discovered.
Peregrine falcons are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Killing a peregrine falcon is a federal offense carrying a maximum penalty of a $15,000 fine and 6 months in jail.
