Final Environmental Assessment Approved for Middle Bass Island, Ottawa County, Ohio

The Final Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Middle Bass Marina in Ottawa County, Ohio, was approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Feb. 15, 2007, when a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was signed.

The EA addressed the renovation of the existing marina basin to improve the environmental quality of the basin, provide modern marina facilities for up to 360 seasonal and transient boat slips, convert existing open space to useable park areas for day-use, and provide camping and public fishing access.

The project was proposed by the Ohio Division of Watercraft for funding through the Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (Federal Assistance in Sport Fish Restoration Act), administered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Projects funded by the Service are required to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act and other associated Federal requirements, including the Historic Preservation Act and the Endangered Species Act.

The Final EA and FONSI can be found on the web at http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/watercraft/EA/.
