This news release serves as an announcement that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) has prepared and is releasing for public review and comment the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) evaluating effects associated with a range of alternatives to provide a Wildlife Center and related Visitor Services Facilities as well as the administration of affiliated programs on the Steinborn Unit of the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge (Refuge) located near the City of Sherwood, Washington County, Oregon.
The Service is seeking comment from Tribes, agencies, jurisdictions, and the public to identify and further define potential impacts of the proposed project and alternatives. We are especially interested in new or unknown information to the Service so we can properly identify and analyze the full spectrum of effects. To facilitate the public review and comment process, the Service is extending an invitation to participate in two public meetings we will be hosting on Wednesday, May 21 at the headquarters office of the Refuge. Headquarters is located at 16507 SW Roy Rogers Road just north of Sherwood. The first meeting of the day, 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon, has been scheduled primarily for public agencies. To better serve the general public, a second meeting has been arranged to commence later that same day in the evening from 7:00 to 9:00. Information will be provided on the developmental process of the draft EA and discussions will focus on descriptions of the Proposed Action and other Action Alternatives which have been evaluated for their potential impacts when compared to the No Action Alternative.
