President George W. Bush has signed reauthorizations for three laws aimed at conserving international wildlife, allowing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to continue federal grant programs for African and Asian elephants, rhinos, and tigers through 2007.
Congress passed the reauthorizations for the African Elephant Conservation Act and the Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Act on December 18; President Bush signed them on January 8. Reauthorization for the Asian Elephant Conservation Act was passed on January 23; the President signed it on February 12.
"President Bush is strongly committed to effective, on-the-ground international wildlife conservation programs," said Interior Secretary Gale Norton. "By working with partners in the affected countries, these programs demonstrate this Administration
