U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Awards $550,000 Grant to State for Eider Conservation

Interior Secretary Gale Norton today awarded more than $17 million in grants to 23 states to promote the conservation of threatened and endangered species.

The grants will benefit such species in every region of the country, helping local partnerships acquire and protect crucial habitat and supporting the development of Habitat Conservation Plans that allow private landowners to use and develop their land while conserving listed species.

Here in Alaska, a total of $550,000, which will be supplemented by $200,000 in partner contributions, was awarded to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to be used to develop a Habitat Conservation Plan for Steller
