"Whether you are a homeowner with geese in your yard, a citizen concerned about the welfare of the birds, a resident worried about aircraft safety or just curious, you are invited to attend," Karen Laing, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist said. "Members of the public and representatives of the Anchorage Waterfowl Working Group will be there.
More than 30 people attended the November 3 public work session. Participants discussed the non-lethal methods of dispersing geese used at Elmendorf Air Force Base, including costs, and an explanation of why Elmendorf favors reducing the local population. They also reviewed a map showing goose numbers around Anchorage, and discussed with biologists why the birds move around town during the summer.
