The Board revised subsitence regulations for lynx trapping at their October 26, 1993, Anchorage public meeting. The meeting was held to reconsider several federal subsistence regulations for the 1993-94 regulatory year.
The lynx trapping regulations were revised in response to a request for reconsideration from the State of Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The State asked the Board to change the subsistence lynx season of November 1 to January 31 to a shortened season of December 1 to January 31 to correspond to the States season. The State has shortened their season due to a decline in the lynx population.
Federal subsistence staff review and analysis also revealed a declining lynx population in the area and the need for a reduced harvest. In addition, the recommendation for the shorter season was endorsed by the Eastern Interior Subsistence Regional Council.
