The public comment period for the "Draft Environmental Assessment on Canada Goose Population Management in Anchorage, Alaska," has been extended by 30 days. The new deadline for comments will be November 30, 1997. The agency has received dozens of comments on the document to date. The extension was granted at the request of citizens.

The primary purpose of the document is to consider whether "lethal control"--allowing some geese to be killed to control their population growth--should be considered as one option. If management actions are to include lethal control options, a federal permit would be required from the US. Fish and Wildlife Service. This Environmental Assessment allows members of the public to review the information and provide comments prior to a decision on such a permit.
