Council Will Develop Recommendations on Proposed Changes to Federal Subsistence Regulations
Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils will hold public meetings in February and March. Regional Council members are knowledgeable local residents who advise the Federal subsistence Board on issues affecting subsistence resources and activities on Federal public lands in Alaska.
In December 1995 the Federal Subsistence Board published and distributed for public comment sixty-seven proposals to change 1996 to 1907 Federal Subsistence Regulations. During the upcoming meetings, the Regional Councils will review and make recommendations to the Board on the proposals that affect subsistence users in their respective regions. Each Regional Council will hear public comment on the proposed regulation changes as well as on other regional subsistence issues.
The proposals suggest changes to Federal customary and traditional use determines, as well as Federal subsistence open seasons, harvest limits, methods, and means for the taking of wildlife on Federal public lands in Alaska. The Board will hold a public meeting from April 29 through May 3, 1996, to consider Regional Council recommendations, staff input, and public comment as it makes a decision on each proposal.
