About Madison Mueller

I was born in Omaha, NE and grew up traveling as an Air Force brat with stations in Ramstein, Germany and Exmouth, Western Australia before settling in Asheville, NC. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology and Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Marine Biology from UNC Wilmington and a doctorate in Biology and Interdisciplinary Genetics from North Carolina State University. My research has spanned aquatic nutrient cycling, water quality data analysis, harmful algal bloom dynamics, anadromous fisheries management, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances toxicology, American Alligator immunology, and freshwater mussel health. Before beginning my doctorate, I spent two years as an Inland Fisheries Technician with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission, one year as an independent contractor for the USFWS on North Carolina coastal rivers, and three years as a project manager for a nonprofit organization in Wilmington, NC. I'm honored for the opportunity to support Ecological Services and learn as much as I can about a career in the Service. I'm thrilled to be back in the mountains where my dog, Lana, and I can hike, swim, explore and spend quality time with family.
