About Jonathan Martinez

Jon came to the Service after 12 years working as a Marine Ecologist for the National Marine Sanctuaries Program at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Hawaii. He was awarded BS and Doctoral degrees from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and started with the federal government through a Student Career Experience Program. In 2021, Jon moved back to New Mexico where he grew up and joined the USFWS Fish and Aquatic Conservation program as the Regional Military Lands Conservation Program Coordinator for the Southwest Region. Jon works with all branches of the military and all USFWS programs to support compliance with the Sikes Act though effective natural resource management coordination and by managing a portfolio of partner conservation projects with military partners to achieve joint conservation goals between the Department of Defense and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Projects include ESA listed and at-risk species surveys, habitat restoration and recreation.
