About Jon Hemming

Jon is a long time Gulf coast resident, having grown up on the northern Gulf coast and worked here most of his career. His passion for the area and people has led him to champion the protection and restoration of the unsurpassed natural resources that we are so fortunate to have. Jon’s professional career began with working in the estuarine ecotoxicology arena at the EPA Gulf Ecology Division after receiving his bachelor's degree in Marine Biology. His experience at the EPA laboratory led to the University of North Texas where he earned his master’s in Aquatic Toxicology and doctorate in Ecotoxicology.  Following graduation, Jon worked with the Life Sciences Department at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama as their Assistant Professor of Ecotoxicology.  He first joined the Fish and Wildlife Service in 2001 at the Panama City Ecological Services Field Office as their Contaminant Specialist and later went on to become their Deputy Field Office Supervisor. And as no one on the Gulf coast had seen a bigger challenge than the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, that challenge and opportunity led Jon to the Gulf Restoration Office in 2013 where he has served many roles including the Field Office Supervisor, Restoration Implementation Coordinator, and most recently the Science, Data, and Monitoring Advisor. Ready for the next opportunity to provide leadership and partnership in Gulf science coordination, Jon is excited to join our team.
