About John Nystedt
I serve as a Fish and Wildlife Biologist and the Tribal Coordinator in the Endangered Species program of the Arizona Ecological Services Office, stationed in Flagstaff. My job includes advising our Field Supervisor on tribal policies and assisting staff work with tribes on mutual conservation efforts. I also work directly with tribes. As a biologist I coordinate and facilitate implementation of the Endangered Species Act for endangered and threatened species including, but not limited to recovery projects; candidate management; listing; cooperative state, Federal, tribal, and private efforts; section 10 permitting activities; and section 7 consultations.
I began working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2002 after 15 years with the Navajo Nation’s Department of Fish and Wildlife. I earned my bachelor’s degree in zoology with a minor in wildlife science from Oregon State University in 1987. Annette and I married in 1994 and have four children, Nathanael, Micah, Woodland and Tyrin.
