FWS Focus

Overview

Lysimachia scopulensis is a branching shrub in the Primulaceae (primrose) family. Stems are up to 75 cm (2.4 ft) long, red or green, and covered with very fine waxy granules giving them a powdery appearance. Leaves are closely spaced, alternate, oblanceolate, nearly succulent, with tips that are slightly to extremely recurved, 3.3 to 8.6 cm (1.3 to 3.4 in) long, and 0.5 to 2.3 cm (0.2 to 0.9 in) wide. The primary vein and petiole (leaf stalk) are sometimes dark red and the secondary veins are prominent. Flowers are solitary in the leaf axils, five to seven, with red corolla lobes. Capsules are globose (globe-shaped) and seeds are dark brown and irregularly shaped.
