Overview

Huperzia mannii, a member of the Lycopodiaceae (clubmoss) family, is a pendent epiphyte (plant not rooted in the ground) with clustered, delicate, red stems which are 4 to 10 cm (1.6 to 3.9 in) long and less than 1 mm (0.04 in) thick. Leaves, arranged in three rows on the stem, are pointed, flat and lance-shaped, 4 to 12 mm (0.2 to 0.5 in) long and 1 to 2 mm (0.04 to 0.08 in) wide. Fruiting spikes branch four to six times and are 12 to 20 cm (4.7 to 8.0 in) long and 1 to 2 cm (0.4 to 0.8 in) wide. Bracts on the fruiting spikes are arranged in two to four ranks, measure l mm (0.04 in) long, and conceal the spore capsules.
