The finelined pocketbook is a mussel that occurs in aquatic habitats ranging from small creeks to large rivers of the eastern Mobile River Basin.

The finelined pocketbook is yellow-brown to blackish in color with fine rays, or stripes, on the back half of the shell.
Life Cycle
From March through May females, angle for host fish species to complete their life cycle by displaying a structure structure

Learn more about structure containing larvae, called superconglutinate, at the end of a clear mucus tube. Unsuspecting species of bass that attempt to eat the superconglutinate will instead host muscle larvae until the larvae mature and fall off the fish to begin its live in the stream substrate.
