Overview

Neraudia angulata, a member of the Urticaceae (nettle) family, is an erect shrub up to 3 m (9.8 ft) tall. Leaves are thin and elliptic to oval, 7 to 15 cm (2.8 to 5.9 in) long and 3 to 5.5 cm (1.2 to 2.2 in) wide. The upper leaf surface has a few silky hairs and the lower surface is moderately hairy. Flowers are male or female and grow on different plants. Staminate (male) flowers are on 1 mm-long pedicels, calyx silky pubescent, the hairs ascending, and lobes 2 to 3.5 mm) (0.08 to 0.14 in) long. The female flowers are sessile with an angled calyx. Achenes (dry-walled fruit) are surrounded by the fleshy calyx. Seeds are ovoid. The variety angulata has a lower leaf surface with appressed hairs and entire margins, the variety dentata has a lower leaf surface with hairs spreading and margins coarsely dentate above the middle.
