Refuges provide places for birds to nest, rest, feed and breed making them world-renown for their birding opportunities, and Green River National Wildlife Refuge is no exception. The forested wetland habitat on the refuge is incredibly important for forest interior songbirds. When water levels are above flood stage, large numbers of migratory waterfowl and wading birds can be observed using the habitat long the Ohio and Green River bottoms.
