Junior Refuge Ranger Spring Break Camp


Junior Refuge Rangers explore the aquatic habitat at Bayou Lacombe.

A day camp exploring the wonder of wild things and Louisiana's native habitat. For youth ages 8 - 10. The 2019 Junior Ranger spring break day camp will be held Monday, April, 22 through Friday, April 26, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day.

Campers will explore nature while enjoying a variety of outdoor activities such as canoeing, fishing, wildlife observation, hiking, and helping with habitat restoration projects. Camp activities will take place at the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Headquarters in Lacombe, LA and at Big Branch Marsh and Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuges.

The camp is a collaborative effort between the Friends of Louisiana Wildlife Refuges and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.


Download a registration application here. Completed registration forms will be accepted until March 27, 2019. After that date a random drawing will be conducted to select the participants for the Junior Rangers day camp.  Priority for registration will be given to children who have not attended previous Junior Ranger day camps. In person sign-up are recommended, but mailed applications are also accepted until the deadline of March 27, 2019.

A $65 camp fee is required upon participant's selection to the Junior Rangers day camp. This fee covers camp supplies. Financial assistance will be available based on need. 

Registration is now open. Registrations can be submitted Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Lacombe Headquarters Office and on Saturdays at the Refuge Visitor Center between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Both are located at 61389 Hwy. 434, Lacombe, LA 70445.
