The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is hosting a virtual public hearing and reopening the public comment period for the proposal to list the southern hognose snake as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. The southern hognose snake is a small, burrowing species native to the coastal plains and sandhills of the southeastern United States. The proposal includes tailored protections for the species under Section 4(d) of the Endangered Species Act.
The public hearing is scheduled for June 25, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time using the Zoom platform. It will consist of a brief presentation on the species status assessment and proposed rule, followed by an opportunity for participants to provide comments.
