The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in conjunction with cooperating agencies, has completed a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS) to further analyze the disposition of the Ballville Dam in Fremont, Ohio, including alternatives and associated impacts, as required under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The supplemental Record of Decision (ROD) was signed today, formally completing this process.
The SEIS adds information and analysis to the previous EIS regarding the sediments impounded behind Ballville Dam. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has selected the Proposed Action - Incremental Dam Removal with Ice Control Structure as the preferred alternative. Of the alternatives evaluated, this alternative best fulfills the agency’s statutory mission and responsibilities while meeting the project purpose and need.
The supplemental ROD describes the process by which this decision was made and summarizes information gathered and analyzed throughout the development and completion of the SEIS. It also includes an appendix with detailed responses to all comments received on the Final SEIS.
The SEIS and supplemental ROD are available on the internet at: http://www.fws.gov/midwest/fisheries/ballville-dam.html
