Public Comment Sought on Draft Environmental Assessment for Eastern South Dakota Fire Management Plan

DENVER – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is seeking public comment on a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) to implement a fire management plan (FMP) for five Service administrative units in eastern South Dakota.  These units are part of the USFWS Great Plains Fire Management Zone and include the Huron Wetland Management Unit (WMD), Madison WMD, Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge Complex (NWRC), Sand Lake NWRC and Waubay NWRC.

The EA evaluates the impact of fire management activities, including wildfire, prescribed fire, mechanical and chemical treatments on Service lands in Eastern South Dakota.

The Service will be publishing a notice of availability (NOA) for the EA in the Federal Register  Once the NOA publishes, public comments will be accepted for 60-days. You will be able to submit comments electronically via email to colby_crawford@fws.gov
