The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) partners with the Anchorage School District to connect teachers with career conservationists - from biologists to law enforcement, and more. We hope to build authentic connections between students and Service professionals, with the following program goals:
- Demystify career pathways for buddings conservationists
- Connect the dots between student coursework and natural resources career paths
- Share the relevance of the work we (the federal government) do with the public
- Engage youth in the stewardship of natural resources
Any Anchorage School District teacher for grades 7-12 can request a presentation on topics such as: migratory bird conservation, marine mammals management, spill response, wetlands, federal careers generally, endangered species, and more. Requests will be processed by the program coordinators and teachers will be matched with an available presenter. Typically, the turnaround time from the request to the presentation takes about 6 weeks. If the requested presentation topic does not match expertise available in our staff, we will do our best to point teachers toward other federal natural resource professionals in the area.

Please note: All our presenters have robust schedules for their conservation career and finding an ideal date is the responsibility of both the teacher and the presenter. This may take some back and forth and we appreciate your patience. Additionally, Service staff tend to be busy planning for the summer season from mid-April to August and we cannot guarantee available presenters at this time.
