Many refuges offer a variety of guided tours and programs, listed in the schedules below. Ride along on a tram tour, learn about red wolves and bears, paddle out into the waters of the refuges, or see thousands of wintering waterfowl!

From the Gateway Visitor Center, it's only a 30-minute drive to Alligator River NWR or Pea Island NWR. Pocosin Lakes NWR is only 40min away (1:20 to the Pungo Unit) and Mattamuskeet NWR is only 1hr away.

Is your school, youth, environmental, or other group interested in learning more about the wildlife, plants, habitats and ecology of coastal North Carolina? Refuges are wild places, and we want to teach you more about them!  We offer much for children and educators, including an educational classroom in the Visitor Center. Please reach out to us to find out more about school visits and educational opportunities!
