The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), Region 6 Office of Conservation Investment (CI), is seeking public comment on a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) regarding the proposed disposal of a 104.333-acre parcel from the Utah Department of Wildlife Resources’ (UDWR) Round Valley Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Morgan County, Utah. The parcel was acquired, in part, with Wildlife Restoration funds to protect big game winter habitat. Funding for the project administered by the Service constitutes a federal action subject to the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969, as amended.

The parcel provides limited-quality big game winter range habitat due to its proximity to a mining operation and highway, and the WMA is landlocked by private property with no public access. If approved, UDWR would replace the lost value by acquiring the 49.981-acre Geneva Parcel adjacent to the WMA. Separately, UDWR will also secure a perpetual access easement and parking lot, opening access to the larger 3,717-acre WMA. This would improve public hunting opportunities and allow UDWR to manage valuable habitat consistent with the original purpose of the property.

The Draft EA, prepared by the UDWR and reviewed by the Service, analyzes the potential environmental effects of the proposed disposal. The Service concluded that the proposed action would not have impacts on historical/cultural resources, wetlands, or floodplains; negligible impact to farmlands; and may affect, but is not likely to adversely affect threatened, endangered or candidate species.

Public comments will be accepted for 30 days, ending March 7, 2026. Comments may be submitted by email to: patricia_thompson@fws.gov or by mail to: Office of Conservation Investment, Attn: Patricia Thompson P.O. Box 25486, Denver Federal Center Denver, CO 80225.
